This game provides a lot of different goals and depending on your individual situation (location- and timewise) you can set your own goals and targets.

Story view: Help your species to gather crystals.
Competition: Improve your rank on the regional or world wide top list
Cooperation: Work together with others in a team and challenge other teams
Missions: Succeed in missions and improve your personal level
Meet new people from all around the world

Technically, the goal is to

build workers
get crystals
build facilities
transform workers into TM parts
mount a Transmitter
place Teansmitters and get scores and reputation
in parallel you can do missions
